Howard Hughes Medical Institute announces the selection of 2024 Hanna Gray Fellows.
Among the cohort of 25 scientists, is Alejandro Lopez of the Knight Lab.
"Alejandro López-Cruz, a scientist and gastroenterology fellow, is using systems neuroscience approaches to study how nutritional and aversive signals from the gut and the rest of the body are detected in the brainstem to regulate feeding, gut motility, and nausea. A better understanding of the mechanisms that regulate these processes will ultimately lead to the development of targeted therapies for disorders such as obesity" [HHMI]
Tara's paper "Negative feedback control of hypothalamic feeding circuits by the taste of food" is published in Neuron on October 09, 2024. Volume 112, Issue 19, 3354-3370
Dr. Zachary Knight, Ph.D., professor of Physiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator featured on Huberman lab podcast. Knight discusses how the brain controls our sense of hunger, satiety, and thirst. He explains how dopamine levels impact our cravings and eating behavior (amount, food choices, etc) and how we develop and can change our food preferences and adjust how much we need to eat to feel satisfied.
Brooke Jarvie of the Knight lab receives 2024 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring on January 30, 2024!
Tara Aitken presents thesis seminar "Sensory signal integration in hypothalamic hunger circuits" on January 19, 2024 in Sandler Auditorium at UCSF
